Journal Page for Gloria

As most of you know by now I'm involved with a Journal Round Robin Swap on Kindred Souls.
The book I've been working on this week is for none other than Gloria Alexander.
The theme she chose was Vintage Shabby Chic. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did making it.

Here is a close up of the tag I covered using a napkin collage technique. You basically decoupage the napkin to the piece and then I used iridescent watercolor to hand paint in all the details.
I just love doing this for it transforms your piece to look like actual canvas.
The cut out pieces are by K and Company.

This is a close up of the small embellishment I made from a small envelope and tag cut from some patterned paper.

This is the back of the page. I love the vintage feel of this print and thought it went perfectly with the theme.

Round Robin Journal Number 2

Ok its time for Round Robin Journal Number 2.
This artist Pam Austin, "Pamicat" used doors as her theme.
I wish I could show you the journal itself for it is absolutely Amazing!
I will leave that honor to the owner herself.
I just hope mine is a worthy addition.

As you can see I picked a cabin door to add to the journal. Not wanting it to seem so plain, I added a stained glass window pane to the door.

Here is a close up of the window. I actually stamped on to clear plastic and colored in the panes with Prismacolor Markers.

Yes the door really opens to reveal the countryside complete with dirt road.

And what cabin would be complete without a cat on the back porch.
I hope they like it.

Sox's Round Robing Journal Page

Over at Kindred Souls Im playing along in a round robin jounal swap. One member, Sox has created a story for hers and the travelers name is Magdalena.
Her journal is themed with travels from around the world. I took her to Asia and below is the page I created for her. I hope she likes it.

This is the completed front of the page. As you can see I created a pocket to fit a tag.
As the story goes Magdalena is traveling by air so in Asia she is touring via hot air balloon.

This is the same page with the tag removed so you can see the complete kimono and the geshia image in the background. I used the gelli printing technique to create the background papers.

Close up of the geshia. She is reversed stamped via Gelli Printing over asian text.

This Panda is stamped with a stamp from Impression Obsession that I stamped and inked and cut out.

Close up of the tag. I stamped the image on clear packaging and used more printed text for the balloons canvas. The background is a reverse stencil from Crafters Companion in watercolored distress ink.

This is the back of my page. The asian coins I created from grunge board.
The fortune reads Live Your Own Life.

I wonder where Magdalena will fly to next?

The Homemade Gelli Plate Experiment

OK, so I kept hearing about Geli plates and wasn't quite sure what they were all about. Well of course if you Google anything you can find out more than you ever knew existed about something. Well that being said I learned about Gelli Plate Art.  Well.. It appears that there is currently only one manufacturer and it was more that I wanted to spend without knowing if I would like this type of art so.... I did what most guys like to do, I found a do it yourself substitute. There are several on YouTube with very clear step by step instructions. Below is my journey.

This is my Gelli plate still in the tray. Plastic wrap on top and bottom. The layer on the bottom made it easier to remove from the tray. The layer on the top kept it from drying out in the fridge for its made from real gelatin.

This is how it looked removed from the tray but still on the bottom layer of the plastic wrap.

These are the paints I used for the experiment. Making Memories Scrapbook acrylic paints.

This is the plate covered in paint.

And this is the first full page print.
Honestly I wasn't to excited but kept playing with colors and the amount of paint.

 Decided to try a tag.

That became several tags in several color combos.

How about trying a stencil from Crafters Workshop. This is the image on white paper.

This is how it looked on black. I really like this one a lot!

How about some number tags? I think these will work great for Birthdays with all the numbers in the background.

Here are some in different colors.

How about with an Umbrella man die cut as a stencil?  As you can see I quickly became very addicted. These are just a few of the tags I created. I really like this a lot and will be playing again. I will most likely end up buying a gelli plate but until then I love my homemade one. If you haven't tried it, do. I'm sure you will come up with some great creations too!

Round Robin Swap

Finally, A new Blog Post from me....

Over at Kindred Souls we are having a round robin journal swap where you make a journal, create your covers and a page then send it to the next player in line to create a page, and so forth and so forth until your book is finished.
Then the player that completes your last page sends it back to you.

Each player had to select a theme for their journal. Mine is Eclectic Vintage Gentlemen.

This is the cover of my journal.

This is the page I created. I used a photograph of old paparazzi. I have had this photo for a while and thought this would be the perfect place to use it. I covered my page in metal tape and embossed it for an industrial look.

This is the back of my page. I kept it simple with some patterned paper an a stamped image reminiscent of Laurel and Hardy.

I just cant wait to see all the great art that comes back in my journal for their are some great artist playing along.
